Living in T.O. here in the Great White North, I have a 21 year old son and a 18 year old daughter (both of whom I've raised since they were 9). They are creative and are of independent minds. I'm proud to be their Father.
From writing code in the 70's at school, my first job upon graduating was running payroll for a credit union. I was a communications specialist (CommRsch) with the C.A.F. in the 80's then spent 11 years with the Ontario government. I've also spent considerable time in the field of Close Protection.
I've been supporting PC's since the mid 90's and building high end gaming rigs for 6 years. Comfortable in either a Linux or Windows environment, I've also concentrated on the vulnerability of a LAN with a view to more than 95% of most exploits being end user related. Computer Forensics and Security (including maintaining chain of evidence), Secure Storage and Imaging, Traffic Management and Data Integrity as well as Virtual Access are tools/policies that are making their way into today's family network.
As the 'net has helped make home networking affordable, and with 'MSN', youtube and file sharing dominating the youth of today's online activities (yes, they still use them for 'school', and for gaming), and the now near daily release of yet another vulnerability/exploit, the home LAN is now an attractive target.
The continued growth of the 'working from home' employee reinforces the need to address these issues in a new way. The recent Russia / Georgia 'war' was preceded by a cyber attack aimed at crippling Georgia's communications. Botnets are in use 24/7 throughout the world. Securing and protecting your family's pictures, videos, important files and access is mandatory in this environment.
From that, the past 3 years I have also been working at making the home (or business) into a Multimedia Home. With access to your files anytime/anywhere on your network, either indoor or out, the typical home entertainment system has new meaning and new opportunity. Portable devices that support Bluetooth, custom remotes, mutli-channel sound in multiroom settings means you now have the ability to play/listen/edit those files anywhere in your home, knowing that your files/access is safe.
As I've also spent 20+ years in the home improvement industry and have sub-contracted with many long standing company's, my services are easily integrated into even the most challenging renovation project.
And that, is my story.

- My first job out of school (near 30 years ago now) was in I.T. The computer was the size of a room and we used reel to reel. Things have come a long way since then.
Fast forward some 20 odd years... With planning and a little luck, I was able to take 4 years off work as I approached 40. I spent that time raising 2 teens on my own. I'm back at work now, and... liking it.
